"HE THAT WINNETH SOULS IS WISE"

"The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he
that winneth souls is wise."  Proverbs 11:30 kjv

Some of the ideas in this post were suggested by the book,
"How to Bring Them to Christ;"  R. A. Torrey, published by
Whitaker house in 1984.  Rev. Torrey was born in 1856 and
died in 1928.  His books were published in many languages,
as  he traveled  around the world in his evangelistic endea-
vors.  He is reported to have  been instrumental in bringing
ten's of  thousands of  souls to  Jesus Christ during his life-
time of 72 years.

If you continue in Proverbs 11: 31 then the 12th chapter,
you find one is rewarded for righteous deeds and a wicked
man   pays a  dear  price.   Verse 7 says,  "The  wicked are
overthrown,  and  are not:  but the  house of  the  righteous
shall stand."  In the  final verse (28,) of  chapter12 there is
this:  "In the way of  righteousness is life,  and in the path-
way thereof there is no death."  He will live forever...

If one would become a winner of souls, he must have the
Divine assurance of his "own" salvation, must be free of sin-
ful habits, with Christ as Lord of  his life.  Another trait one
must  have is an affinity for lost persons.  When we consider
the  ultimate eternal condition of  a lost man or woman in a
burning hell with Satan and his Demons,  how could we not
be broken hearted for them in this lost estate.  The only cure
for this condition is a  personal relationship with  our Lord,
Jesus, Messiah, the Son of God,who has paid the penalty for
the  sins of anyone who will come to  him in faith and repent
of the sin that has separated him from the Lord God

The apparent key to knowing, of a surety, you are born of
the Spirit of  God is plain.  (Not simple)  "That if thou shalt
confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and  believe in thine
heart that God has raised him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness
and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation."
"For whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be
   saved."    Romans 10: 9-10, 13
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten
son, that  whosoever believeth in him should not perish,  but
have  everlasting life.  For  God  sent  not  his Son  into  the
world to condemn the world, but that the world through him
might be saved."                                       John 3: 16-17

Worldly entanglements will slow or stop the work altogether,
since they  tend to distract  from the purpose of pleasing the
Lord God in all of life.  I would not insist on completely tur-
ning  from all entertainment  media, but  there  are  some so
questionable, that one who would keep his/her mind clear to
serve  our Lord,  will  need to refrain  from such.  There are,
however; some media that will keep you in touch with current
trends and thought and those who  would  communicate  the
gospel to  anyone today, might do  well to observe, "wisely,"
and sparingly.

There are many "plans" soul winners use to communicate
the gospel, but you must personalize the information, which
must  have a Scriptural base.  It will not be  effective unless
one is completely familiar with the information and able to
express the  message in a  natural manner.  Personal evan-
gelism  is  one on one, and the witness must genuinely love
his  Lord,  the Scripture and  the individual with whom  he
is  dealing.  You  would also  do well to  keep a Bible close
for reference as needed.

Finally, there is the source of power one must access in
order to communicate effectively. The Lord Jesus Christ is
the source of power for one to live  life well pleasing to his
Heavenly Father.  The power of God is found in His Word,
and that Word may be described as the "Word made flesh"
"And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and
we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the
Father,) full of grace and truth."  John 1: 14

The key, then, is learn everything you  can/will about the
birth, life, death, burial, resurrection and intercession of the
Son of God.  To do this  you must gain a background  in the
Scripture; Old Testament and New Testament.  All of this is
given  power and wisdom,  as one is filled with the Spirit of
Jesus Christ,  the  Holy Spirit.  Since  Jesus said, "I and my
Father are one..."The Spirit of God, the Spirit of Jesus, and
the Holy Spirit must be one, as well."   One thing to remem-
ber;  The only manifestation of God on  earth is the person,
Jesus Christ, the "Word made flesh."   When one is born of
the Spirit, Born again, converted, saved;  he is dwelt of the
Spirit.  This does not mean he/she has the "fullness" of the
Spirit.  The fullness of the Spirit is given when we meet the
conditions.  Those conditions are for one to pray for clean-
sing of his life/heart, of known sin, submission to our Lord
in all  things, and  thanking the Lord  for the answer to his
request for the fullness of the Spirit. This will enable one to
walk in the Spirit with Jesus Christ, the "Word made flesh,"
