SOME THINGS TAUGHT IN GOD'S WORD

There is no way here, we can list all the doctrines of  Scripture.
There are a few “essential” beliefs one needs, however, to have
a dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ that will bear fruit.

* The Lord God is self existing without beginning, without end.
    (“I AM”)   Genesis 1:1,

* Sovereignty of God the Father  (He created it all and is in charge of
His creation.)  Genesis 1: 1-3,  John 1: 1-2 (nothing happens without
  His permission.)

* Six actual  Day Creation Account as in Genesis. (The earth is about
6,500 years old.)  It is difficult to be dogmatic about this, although it
is important that we not fall for the millions of  years needed for the
Evolutionist heretics.  We  must subscribe to a  young  earth stance.
Since the earth is degrading it  is the only belief open to  us.  This is
not  a reference to the  bogus "global  warming theory" debacle  as
perpetrated by persons who would become wealthy promoting error.
                                                                                        Genesis 1: 1-31

* Deity of Jesus Christ:  John 8:19, Then said they unto him, "Where
is  thy  father?"  Jesus  answered,  "Ye  neither  know  me,  nor my
Father:  if ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also."
John 10: 30, "I and my Father are one.". (See John 1:1)

* God’s Omniscience, Hebrews 4: 12-13, Psalm 103: 14..., The Lord
  God knows...

Omnipresence  (Trinity), Omnipotence (all powerful, without
limits)  John 1: 1-16, ... the Word became flesh..."

   Omnipotence:  "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying;
'All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth."   Mt. 28: 18
(This power was given Him by the Father.)

* The Lord God exists outside time, in eternity and is not bound by
time or space.  John 1: 1-2," In the beginning was the Word, and
the Word was with God,  and the Word was God.  The same was
in the beginning with God."  (See also John 1:14, "
"And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld
his glory, the  glory as  of  the only begotten of the Father,)  full of
  grace and truth."

* God is a Spirit,  "God is a Spirit and they that worship him must
worship him in Spirit and in truth."  Jesus Christ became man and
the Holy Spirit is in the World today.  There is one God,  His mani-
festations are not limited.  The doctrine of the Trinity is wrapped
up in God’s omnipresence.  God is present in all the universe either
as the Father,  the Son, or the Holy Spirit.  (Spirit of God, Spirit of
Jesus Christ, The Holy Spirit) John 4:24

* Repentance is essential  before salvation  is  given.  (gift of God)
"I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish."
Luke 13:3,  Repentace is to regret an act of thought, agree with
God as to it's error and to fully intend, with God's help to forsake
    that action in the future.

* Total Depravity of Man without Christ.  Romans 8: 7
Mankind without Christ is Spiritually dead and doomed and does
not know right from wrong; unable to resist wrong or do right."For
God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world;  but that
the world through him might be saved  He that believeth on him is not
condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because
he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
                                                                          John 3:17-18,

* No other way of salvation outside a personal relationship with Christ
and Man’s Inability to attain Salvation on His Own.  John 14:6, Jesus
saith unto him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life:  no man cometh
to the Father, but by me."

* Inerrancy of the  Holy Scripture.  Hebrews 4: 12-13
(vs.12, "For the Word of God is quick, (alive) and powerful,
and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the
dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and mar-
row, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
* Reliability of the Scripture.  (same as above)

* Immaculate Conception and subsequent Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ
Mary, the mother of Jesus, subsequently had children by Joseph.
Isaiah 7: 14, "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign:  Behold
a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Imman-
uel.  Luke 1:26, "Now in the sixth month the Gabriel was sent by God
to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man
whose name was Joseph, of the house of David.  The virgins's name
was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, 'Rejoice, highly
favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women..."
vs. 31. "And behold you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a
Son, and shall call his name Jesus.." vs.34. "Then Mary said to the
angel, 'How can this be, since I do not know a man?"  (The name,
Immanuel, means "God with us.")

*Salvation by grace through Faith, no dependence upon works; a gift.
Ephesians 2: 8-9, "For by grace are ye saved by faith; and that not of
yourselves: it is the gift of God.  Not of works lest any man should
boast."  (Grace is God's unmerited favor and faith is "The substance
of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  For by it the
elders obtained a good report. Hebrews 11: 1-2)  Read the complete
chapter 11 of Hebrews, the "faith" passage.

* Proof of faith is righteous works. James 1: 22-25, (22. "But be ye
doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.")
James 2: 17, "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

* Efficacy of the Finished Work of Jesus Christ to save mankind by
His death, (blood) burial, resurrection, ascension, and intercession
  at the Father's right hand.)
"And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and
without shedding of blood is no remission." (of sin)  Hebrews 9: 22.

* Catching away (Rapture) of the Church prior to Great Tribulation.
1 Thessalonians 4: 16-17, "For the Lord himself shall descend from
heaven  with a shout, with  the voice of  the archangel,  and with the
trump of God, and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  Then we which
are  alive and  remain shall  be caught  up together  with them in the
clouds,  to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the
Lord."  (Read vs. 13 thru 18)
Nothing  in Bible  Prophecy is  left to be  fulfilled before  “Catching
away” to come to pass.  (called "Rapture" by some.)

* Seven years of Tribulation just after culmination of the Church age.

*  Second Half of Tribulation is Great Tribulation, 3-1/2 years

* Second Coming of Jesus Christ to set up 1,000 year reign.  He will
return to the earth in person and claim his church or "Bride.)
                                  (Revelation 20: 1-3) Read Chapters 19-20

*  Mankind to stand before God at judgment at end of the age.  Belie-
vers will appear at the Judgment Seat of Christ and appraised on their
faithfulness, and rewarded.  At the Great White Throne, Unbelievers
will be judged, condemned and the mouths will be shut before the all-
knowing, all-powerful Deity.  Hebrews 9: 24-27. (vs. 27, "And as it is
appointed men once to die, but after this, the judgment:)

*Baptism of the Holy Spirit in every born again child of God. Acts 1:
7-8, This Baptism makes each believer  part of the Church, Body of
Christ,  Acts 12:13, "For by  one Spirit are we all  baptized  into one
body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free;
and have been made to drink into one Spirit."  One of the reasons I
cannot be  part of  the separation of  peoples  along ethnic,  color or
"racial" lines. (I challenge anyone to find basis for any race except
the "Human race," or a "foot race, auto race, boat race, etc.,  This
is serious business, but we need to lighten up....

* The Church universal founded by Jesus Christ.  Matthew 16: 18
"And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock
I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail
against it."  If we look back to verse 15 &16 of this chapter we
see; "He saith unto them, 'But whom say ye that I am?' And
Simon Peter answered and said, 'Thou art the Christ, the Son of
the living God."  I believe this declaration by Simon Peter of
Jesus Christ as Lord is the rock on which our Lord has built and
    is building his church.

*Local Church:  A body of baptized persons who have expressed
personal belief in Jesus Christ as Lord, Son of God, and the only
way of eternal salvation from sin (transgression of the Law) and
eternal death, who have joined together to promote the Kingdom
of the Living God in the name of Jesus Christ and in the power of
the Spirit of Christ.  (Holy Spirit)

   * Inclusion of the gentile believers in the promises of God (the
Church) and not subject to the ritual law of the Jews.  Acts 9:
    15-16,  Acts 10: 34-38,  Acts 15: 7-11

* Eternal Security of the Believer in Christ begins at time of new birth.
No man is drawn to the Lord outside of the work of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 8:  11-14 (13. "For if you live according to the flesh you will
die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you
   will live.")

*There is a rest promised to the Child of God in this world when we
cease to work for our own salvation and acknowledge that it is in
God’s hands.  Hebrews 4: 9-10, "There remains therefore a rest for
the people of God.  For he who has entered His rest has himself also
ceased from his works as God Did from His. (Referring to the
seventh day of creation when the Lord rested from his labor.)

* (Laity)  One who is not professional or specially devoted to a certain
pursuit.  (I have grave misgivings about such a term and think
it an invention of man that can create artificial walls between
children of God.)  In KJV of Scripture the term is "the people."
Later versions used the term "laity."  ("For as many as are led
by the Spirit of God; they are the sons of God.") Romans 8:14

* (Clergy)  A professional minister or church official. (See laity) An
individual may, unilaterally decide himself called to pastor and
since we are all flawed, sometimes this individual is simply mis-
           taken.
At other times, an individual may have an authentic call of the
Lord upon his life.  If you or I try to determine the authenticity,
it would be "judging" our brother;  forbidden in Scripture.
                      (Matthew 7: 1-2, Romans 14: 1-10)

* (Servant of the Lord) A born-again person who through his devotion
to the Lord and service within the body of Christ distinguishes
himself to the point that people have a desire to ordain him to
Gospel Ministry by the laying on of hands or ordination, seeing
the hand of God upon him. (See the life of Charles H. Spurgeon)

* Ordination: The third ordinance of the church, administered by the
Laying on of hands.  This is symbolic of the Church’s seeing God’s
hand on one.  Other ordinances are water Baptism by immersion,
   and The Lord’s Supper.
                 Acts 6:3-6, Acts 8: 37-38, 1 Corinthians 11: 23-29.

* Prayer:  When we make petitions before the throne of God according
to His will, He hears us and answers our prayer.  We approach the
throne of grace in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. 1 John 5: 14-16

* Hope:  A virtue as is faith and love. (Hope-The Confident expectation
of future good in Christ.) Romans 8: 24-25

* Incarnation:  Jesus Christ is one with the Father, but when He was
made a man of flesh, he shed the appearance of God which was part
of His sacrifice.  Jesus Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born
as a human child to a virgin, Mary,  and tasted life as we have,  but
was without sin.  Matthew 1, John 1: 6-18. (14) "..the Word became
flesh  and dwelt among us,  and we beheld his glory,  the glory as of
the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth."

* Predestination:  This doctrine comes into play when one receives
Christ as Lord.  The Lord takes it upon Himself to perfect this new
believer through Sanctification and to make him what God planned
for him to be. The believers glorification and eternal destiny is also
   secured...   Romans 8: 27-29

* Justification, Sanctification, Glorification, Atonement, Total Depra-
vity, Election, Regeneration, Salvation, Propitiation, Anointing, Bap-
tism by immersion, Filling of the Spirit, Baptism of the Spirit when
one receives Christ.  Romans 8: 28-30

* Jesus Christ is the Lord of all and when we acknowledge it by con-
fessing Him with our mouths and submitting our will(s) to him, we
receive the blessings that come to the child of God as a favored son.
This must  be accompanied by confession of and turning from sin in
the life.  (Repentance) Romans 10:9-10, "...with the mouth confes-
sion is made unto salvation."   (Jesus Is Lord, whether or not we
submit to Him.)

* Election:  The process used by the Lord in eternity past to predeter-
mine the eternal condition of His creation according to His good plea-
sure. This is well beyond my understanding. 1 Peter 1:1-2, "Peter, an
apostle of Jesus Christ, to the pilgrims of Dispersion in Pontus, Gala-
tia, Cappadocia.  Asia and Bithynia, elect according to the foreknow-
ledge of  God the  Father in  the sanctification of  the Spirit,  for obe-
dience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ:  Grace to you and
peace be multiplied."

*Reconciliation:  Since Christ died for us, we have (Spiritual) life in
Him and are reckoned dead to the flesh.  He came into the world to
reconcile sinners in Himself to the father.  He has passed the minis-
try on to us.  2 Corinthians 5: 18,19,20.
vs. 20. "Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did
beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to
God."

*Remission of Sin:  Although we will be constantly exposed to sin on
the earth, in this flesh, sin no longer has dominion over us and we are
free of  death caused  by sin and alive in Him.  It is  as though we had
a mortal illness in remission and no longer threatens our life. One day
we will  be free from sins presence and will no longer have to contend
with the weakness of this flesh, the body of this death. Romans 5:1-2
(...peace with God, by faith in Jesus Christ)  The life Christ gives  us
is eternal,  with a "new" body, a Spiritual and perfect body like His.

* The Fruit of the Spirit:  There are  seventeen actions and attitudes
found  in Galatians 5:17-21 that are  anathema to  a life with  Christ.
None of these, works of the flesh, are part of the life of a follower of
Jesus Christ.
There are nine principles listed as the fruit of the Spirit.  You will  see
one must work to produce "works of the flesh," while the "fruit of the
Spirit" is what Christ  produces in the life of one who follows Him.
The fruit is not nine separate things, but is of a piece;  fruit, singular,
of the Spirit.  "If we live in the Spirit, let us walk in the Spirit."
                                                                                        (Galatians 5:22-26)

*The Mind of Christ: Just as the Spirit produces fruit, nine principles
from one source, having the "Mind of Christ," produces three actions
or attitudes, that are of one piece, the "Mind of Christ."
                                                                                 See Philippians 2:1-4

*In Matthew 7:1, we find, "Judge not, that you be not judged. For with
what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure
you use, it will be measured back to you."\ (nkjv)  In this same chapter
of Matthew we find the following.  An apparent  conflict, vs. 18-21,
"A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into
the fire.  Therefore, by their fruits you will know them.  Not everyone
who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but
he who does the will of My Father in heaven."

This passage is dealing with another subject, altogether.  It refers
to one who has made an apparent confession of faith in Christ, but in
no way is he following Christ and it is obvious by his disobedience.
This is not a matter of judging,  but a matter of knowing.  It is not
opinion; it is a clear observation.   We may have the  impression that
another is in a state of disobedience or unbelief by the apparent deeds
of his life.  We may err in that estimation.  If we does not state this
concern to another, we have not judged that one,  but are reserving
judgment.  If we do not go to that one and express concern, we do not
love with the Love of ourLord Jesus Christ.  A good/safe way to con-
duct your life;
"Hold a higher standard for your conduct
than for any other."  (personal belief)

A NEW CREATURE, Romans 5:1-2, 8:1-4, 14

The  coming into the world, as  a human child, by
the Lord Jesus Christ was for the expressed purpose
of  the  redemption of  mankind.  Christ  fulfilled  his
mission  and left a  cadre of disciples through whom
his Holy Spirit  lives and  works to  accomplish  that
mission of perfecting his church or bride in order to
get this underway.  He died  for those who believe in
and accept  him,  then  returned to the Father where
He intercedes on our behalf. This work is carried on
by the New Creatures. This was not clearly revealed
in  Old Testament  times.  These New  Creatures are
filled  with the  Spirit of God and  can only  perform
Kingdom service by reliance upon the Holy Spirit by
whom they/we are given  unique gifts, specific to the
mission  given.  These gifts enable each  to complete
the mission they are called,  by  the Lord God, to do,
and are above and beyond their natural abilities.

Since  those used for  these tasks had  to be free of
the guilt of sin  which separates one from Holy God,
Jesus Christ shed  his blood on  the cross for the sin
cleansing  them and  making each  righteous before
Holy God.  This righteousness; not their own, is the
righteousness of  Jesus Christ imputed  to  each one
through  faith  in  God the Son.  This  righteousness
does  not give  the  New Creature  a  state of sinless
perfection,  but does  enable him/her to  live  above
reproach before God and man.

Each is able to  minister  in  the name  of  Christ
in the power of His Holy Spirit.  We are only limited
in  this  endeavor by our natural bodies of flesh. The
Word of God says, "...flesh and  blood cannot inherit
the  Kingdom of  God;  therefore, we know a body of
flesh cannot  enter  God's  eternal  presence:  It must
be  changed into a  spiritual body.  In John 4:24, we
find; God is a Spirit and they that worship him must
worship him in  Spirit  and  in  truth.  In the mind of
Christ, we  are in his presence now, seated  with him
in heavenly places. (Ephesians 2:4-10)

We are made acceptable in Christ to God through
the blood of  Jesus Christ.  In Hebrews 9:22 we see
a  clear statement on this issue:  "Without the shed-
ding of blood there is no  remission." (of sin)  Here
we recall the word remission is having a malignant
condition  that  no  longer  adversely  affects  one's
body.  Sin is still  present, but  has  no  power  over
us.
We have the earnest or guarantee of the Spirit
as the essential downs payment and upon release
from  our bodies through death or the  "Catching
away," we will be free from the presence of sin, as
we stand stand before a Holy God.  We have been
freed from the penalty of sin and will be free from
the presence of sin.  The Key is in God's Word; in
Ephesians 5:25-26, we find:  Husband's love your
wives just as Christ also loved the church and gave
himself for her, that he might sanctify and cleanse
her with the washing of the water by the Word."
Our lives are cleansed as we pour over the Word
of God, agreeing with him to work in our lives.

"The Lord reigneth, let the earth rejoice."  Psalms
97:1, "Therefore, having  been  justified by faith, we
have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
through  whom also we have access by  faith into his
grace in which  we stand,  and rejoice in hope of the
glory of God."                               Romans 5:1-2

"But God commendeth His love toward us in that
while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
                                              Romans 5:8

"There is therefore now no condemnation to them
which are in  Christ Jesus,  who walk not after the
flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit
of life in Christ Jesus hath made me  free from the
law of  sin and death.  For what the  law could not
do, in  that  it  was  weak  through  the  flesh, God,
sending his own Son in  the likeness of sinful flesh,
condemned sin in  the  flesh: that  the righteousness
of  the Law might  be  fulfilled in  us  who walk  not
after the flesh, but after the Spirit."

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God,
they are the Sons of God." Romans 8:1-4, 14

(You may well read the entire epistle of the Apos-
tle  Paul to the Church at Rome for a clear under-
  standing of this matter.)

HOLY SPIRIT 101 ACTS 1, 2

Holy Spirit 101                                                                     Acts chapters 1, 2

"Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for
salvation is of the Jews.  But the hour cometh, and now is,
when the true worshipers  shall worship the Father in Spi-
rit  and in truth:  for  the  Father  seeketh  such to worship
Him.  God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must wor-
ship Him in Spirit and in truth." (kjv)   John 4: 22-24

"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come
upon you: and ye shall be witness unto me both in Jerusalem,
and in all Judea and in Samaria,  and unto the uttermost part
      of the earth." kjv-Acts 1: 8

You will notice the word, "Ghost," in the passage.  Later
translations of this passage render it, "Spirit." The terms are
generally  considered by most  English speaking believers to
be  interchangeable.  There  are  those  who  hold   the  term,
"Holy Ghost," to be an important distinction.  This distinction
is beyond my sphere of knowledge.  If you read this and  are
able to  shed light on this distinction,  please email me and I
will, with permission, publish your remarks.
                                                 jlrsbnch@msn.com

With reverence for our Lord God, the Lord Christ and the Holy
Spirit,  the following is presented  as humbly as  I know  how.  I
hardly think of myself as  an authority on this or any other sub-
ject of Scripture. I have had exposure to preaching and teaching
from the Bible on this and the insights of the late Dr. Bill Bright
that  has  been very  helpful to me, (Campus Crusade for Christ)
since 1970. The reason for dealing with this doctrine is; it is cri-
tical to an understanding of how things get done in the Kingdom
of God.  It is the Lord's doing, we are  merely instruments in His
hands as we yield  to the leadership, wisdom  and  power of  the
Spirit of God.  ( We are not puppets and in every instance are  in
control of our spirit  and knowledge of  that done in the Spirit  of
God.)

Although the story concerning the spectacular appearance of the
Spirit in Acts 1: 8  is well known, there are still misunderstandings
and misapplications of the event and it's ramifications on the life
of believers in Christ.  Our purpose here is to discuss the basic and
essential purposes for the Spirit's presence and power in the life of
the church.  The Scripture in no sense teaches one to emphasize
Spirit power in an individual life,  but to trust and rely upon the power
and presence as needed for service in the Kingdom of God.  In other
words, the Spirit did not come to testify of  Himself, but to testify of
Jesus Christ.  When we say we are trusting Jesus Christ to make a
change in life, we are referring to the Spirit of Christ.  When we say
the Lord has led, we mean the Spirit is leading us.   Romans 8: 14,
"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of
God."  We use the terms interchangeably, since our Lord said He
would send "His" Spirit to be with us, comfort us, and bring to mind
things He taught as he walked among men in His incarnation.  (John
14: 16-21) With permission, there is one more thing to add here.  I
keep hearing well meaning followers of our Lord say things like;
"The Lord has given me a message for 'you',"  or  (The Lord has
directed me to do or to say something.)  Try as I may, there are diffi-
culties that arise with these scenarios:
In my limited experience, there has never been an audible voice one
might attribute to the Lord God.  There have been impulses and even
impressions, but one could hardly state without equivocation;" these
come from the Lord."  One wag said, "There have been many impres-
sions attributed to the Lord that came, most likely, from poor digestion."
So why not say; one believes he has the mind of Christ in a matter, and
leave room for human error.  Since our plans often come to nothing or
become debacles, let's never bring reproach on Him for our poor judge-
ment.  Grant us wisdom, O Lord, to know the difference...

The Holy Spirit does not magnify Himself.  He speaks of Christ who did
not magnify Himself, but His Father in Heaven.  (If one were to testify of
himself, the witness would be suspect. If one testifies of another, it's belie-
vable.)  As we walk, talk and work in the presence, power and wisdom of
the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ, we do not make an issue of being empo-
wered.  Our testimony is always to be of Jesus Christ in life.  We never
boast of Holy Spirit Power.  Persons within and without the church are
more able  to identify with Jesus Christ  than  a Spirit.  The work  of the
Holy Spirit is to be taught to the believer who is ready to receive it,  but
the teacher must never present himself as being mature in the Spirit, but
as a disciple (learner) just like the rest of us.  (NO SUPER SAINTS)  In
James 4:5 there is a reference to the "spirit" of man.  This, of course, is
not the Holy Spirit  or the Spirit  of Jesus Christ.  With this  "spirit"  in
control of a life, the Spirit of Jesus Christ will be quenched or grieved.
(1 Thessalonians 5: 19, Ephesians 4: 30)

Another consideration along this same line is the fact of Jesus' limita-
tion of Himself during his incarnation and the lifting of  those limitations
through the presence of the Spirit in Christ's stead.  Our lord was limited
to being  in one  place at a time.   He was further limited by the  frailness
of his  human body.   (John 4: 6)  Being free of sin,  yet  tempted  in  the
same sense we are, to sin.  Hebrews 4: 14-16, (vs. 15, "For we have not
an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities;
but was tempted in all points like as we are, yet without sin.)  The Spirit
of Christ is not just omnipresent; every act, thought and attitude is perf-
ormed in His presence.  Secondly, His power is that of God the Spirit
without limitation.  He does as Christ did on the earth in that he always
does the Father's will and is one with the Father.  He is not limited in
any way by time, space, or energy.  (Is it not evident to you and me; the
Lord God in any of his manifestations, Son of God or Holy Spirit is not
concerned with status, eminence or who gets credit for anything done?
The glory always goes to God the Father who is a Spirit, not known in
the flesh, but the Spirit through faith. )
Praise his Holy name.  I only hope this lesson is not lost on us as we
seek to honor and  serve the Lord God here,  in the Spirit.   If we serve
our Lord with an  expectation of recognition,  praise or gain,  we are in
the "flesh," and cannot please Him.  We must be "like Christ."  Our ser-
vice is not compulsory,  nor self  centered and we  always give  praise
and glory to our Lord.  In that way we may have the Spirit on and in us
and in that way,  may be "like Christ."

"God is a Spirit: and they that worship
Him must worship Him in Spirit and
in truth."             John 4: 24 kjv

There is also the important concept of faith as we deal with the work
of the Spirit of God.  In every facet of the Christ life, faith is essential.
No one has seen the Spirit of God.  He is not experienced through any
of the five senses.  One must be given the gift of faith.  "So then, faith
cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God."  Romans 10:17.
In Hebrews 10:38 we read a passage we associate with Martin Luther,
"Now the just shall live by faith..." ( In Hebrews 11:6, "But without
faith it is impossible to please Him;  for he that cometh to God must
believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek
him.")  As one begins to study the how of every facet of Kingdom endea-
vors, we find worship, prayer, preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, wit-
nessing to the gospel, and living a life above reproach, and anything we
might consider,  must be done "in/by faith."  (Faith in the Lord Jesus
Christ, enlightened by the Spirit to the glory of God the Father.)
Hebrews 11: 6 (see above)

Finally; In his incarnation, Jesus Christ was always outside mankind,
seeking to bless, teach, serve, heal and lead.  The Spirit is involved in
the effort of bringing men to Christ by the conviction of sin, righteous-
ness, and judgment.  The Holy Spirit is with, on, and in every believer
to create within that believer the image of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  This
is the goal of our Lord; to perfect a spotless bride for Himself through
the sanctification or cleansing of individual believers making up his
church, through efforts of His Holy Spirit, as the believer is enlightened
thru the Word of God.  God never acts contrary to, or apart from His
Word. (Holy Scripture)

The key to  all of this is the act of individual believers, in fellowship
with the local church,  immersing themselves in God's Word and learning
first hand, how the Holy Spirit is working in their lives.  If one does not
become a disciple of Jesus Christ through personal, in-depth study of the
Word, and fellowship in His church he will never be all  he could be in the
power of the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ.  He will never know how our
Lord works in the lives of believers and will be guilty of "neglecting" His
salvation.  How then shall he escape the censure of our Lord when he
stands before Him to give account for the deeds done in the flesh.  In the
book of Hebrews, chapter 2, verses 1 thru 4 we see, "Therefore we must
give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.
For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every trans-
gression and disobedience received a just reward, (recompense) how shall
we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be
spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,
God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various mira-
cles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?  (You might
want to read chapters 1-2 of the book of Acts at one sitting.)

THE DANGERS OF SHARING CHRIST

"The Dangers of Sharing Christ"                                Matthew 7: 6

“Do not give what is holy to the dogs;  nor cast
your pearls before swine, lest they trample them
under their feet, and  turn again and tear you in
pieces."nkjv" I have never heard a sermon taken
from this passage. There have been some on the
passage  just before on "Judging," and some on
the  passage  following,  "ask, seek and  knock,"
but never on verse six of chapter 7, Matthew.

There is obviously a reason for this, but I can
only  come up with  one.  Pastors do not wish to
offend. This passage may be offensive, but com-
municating  the  message of  Christ  in  love  is
essential.  According  to Isaiah  8:12-14,  Jesus
is a "Rock of offense and a stone of stumbling."
Preaching the whole counsel of God, in love, we
"let the chips fall where they may," without pre-
judice.

There are basically  three thoughts here.
One is; take care with whom you entrust the mes-
sage of Jesus Christ.  Another, If you do witness
of Jesus Christ  with  callous, uncaring  persons,
your  reward  may  be  that  of  rough  handling.
Thirdly, and most important, share your witness
with persons to whom the Lord leads and not on
your own.  Communicating the message of salva-
tion in Christ Jesus must only be done after care-
ful preparation.  First, the witness must know the
Lord in a personal way, not just the facts. To be
successful  one must know the Lord and be filled,
controlled and empowered by the Holy Spirit. He
or she  must be able  to "give an  answer for  the
hope that lies within," in a clear, concise manner,
knowing the response of the person to whom you
witness has a will and  must be willing to  accept
the Lord. Don't forget the term,"whosoever will."

Since nothing goes without saying, all of this is
to be bathed in prayer and it is always helpful to
enlist  others to  pray for the  witness as  he goes
"into all the world."
Ephesians 6:18, Romans 8:14, Matthew 28:19-20

                          *1 Peter 3:15*
"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts : and
be ready always to give an answer to every man
that asketh you a  reason for  the hope that is in
 you with meekness and fear."

In my experience, there have been times I  have given little
thought to preparation, and it  has resulted in frustration and
ultimately,  timidity on  my  part in  sharing Christ.  The  poor
results were  not the  fault of the Lord you and I serve,  but in
failure to adequately prepare ourselves for the  battle.  “For
we do not wrestle against  flesh and blood,  but against princi-
palities, against powers, against  the rulers of the darkness of
this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly pla-
ces."  Ephesians 6: 12. When  you look at  the greater passage,
verses 10-20, you find a definitive  description of preparation
for the battle using the “...whole armor of God.” If we are not
fully armed, we are vulnerable and will fail.

To close, consider what is left in the passage, uncovered.
    The Apostolic advice to us:
Be strong in  the might of  God, and stand on the truth of the
Gospel of  Peace.  We must put on the righteousness of Jesus
Christ, since we  have none of our own, exercise our faith in
Him, knowing our salvation is secure, praying for each other.
We may then speak truth with confident impartiality knowing,
in the Spirit, the Lord will direct us to the person He wills. In
all things,  Jesus' prayer to the Father was,  "...Not as I  will
but as thou  wilt."  Matthew 26: 39)

In all of this, the doctrine of the Sovereignty of God is pre-
eminent in what He does in and through us.  We cannot do any
thing for Him, but With “Christ in you” all things are possible.
"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
(Philippians 4: 13)

*******************************************************

                                          The Armor of God

Ephesians 6: 10-20...the armor of God. The phrase, “The whole
armor of God,” is about the various parts of the protective gear
of a child of God in the metaphor of the body armor of a Roman
soldier.  The idea is; without every part of the armor, the soldier
is vulnerable.  If the whole body is not protected, the result may
be injury or loss of life. This Spiritual armor is as follows:
The first mentioned is truth or the Gospel of Jesus Christ which
is the basis for the entire battle. (You shall  know the  truth and
the truth shall make you free.  John 8: 32   In another place our
Lord  referred to himself as "truth."   "I Am the Way,  the Truth
and the Life...")  The reason  for the battle is to  free men  from
the  clutches (lies) of  the enemy, Satan.  (The battle  belongs to
the Lord.)

Secondly, we have the breastplate of righteousness;  protection
from  frontal assault.  Next, we have  shoes consisting of prepa-
ration of  the gospel as  recorded in  God‘s Word,  the shield of
faith, without which no man may see God, and the helmet of sal-
vation.  All of  these are the  defensive parts of  the armor.  The
last  part of  the armor  listed,  is the sword of the  Spirit or the
Word of God. This is the only "offensive" weapon in the arsenal
available  to us.  In order  to prevail in  this battle we  not  only
need  to know the  gospel of  Jesus Christ,  but the body of truth
which is the Old and the New  Testaments.

Then one is included that is not "armor," but is just as important
and that is  prayer and  supplication for  the saints.  Here, Paul
requests prayer for himself, the principle warrior in this battle,
that he may stand boldly in the strength of the Lord.  This whole
passage reminds us that we will never prevail in a spiritual war-
fare with weapons of flesh.  We must use Spiritual weapons and
the protection Christ affords those who rely upon him.  Relying
upon Him is getting into His Word and receiving our orders, or
His  plans for the battle He wages through us.

to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the
hope that is in you with meekness and fear."  1 Peter 3: 15)

"LOVE THE LORD...LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR.."

                                            Matthew 22:  36-40

When asked by one of the lawyers,  "Teacher, which is the great
commandment in the law?" Jesus said to him, "You shall love the
Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all
your mind. This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it: You shall love your neighbor as your-
self.   On these  two commandments  hang all the Law and  the Pro-
phets."  (NKJV)

Although these two  commandments  are  found in Leviticus and in
Deuteronomy,  they  are  reiterated in  Matthew 22: 36-40  by Jesus
Christ  and are elevated beyond the Ten Commandments as found in
Exodus.  When you look at  the Ten,  it is interesting that they are in
order of  God first and fellowman or  neighbor second,  just as  is the
Great  Commandment.  It might  be said,  the Great  Commandment
summarizes and  explains the  Ten Commandments.   In  making the
Law of  God  about Love of God and  love of  neighbor,  it is brought
home in a personal way.  We find in ourselves or in the flesh,  we are
unable to  fulfill or  carry  it out.  As we  determine this,  there is one
course of action for the Child of God;  love God,  whom we have not
seen, by an act of faith.  Hebrews 11: 1-3:
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped  for, the evidence of
things not seen.   For by it the elders obtained a good testimony:
By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word
of  God so that the things which are seen were not made of things
    which are visible."

At this point it is important to point out  that "faith" alone cannot save
us and  we  have no confidence  in "our" faith.  It is the  Grace of  our
Lord Jesus Christ. Our faith is the catalyst, His is the power. Hebrews
10: 38,  "Now the just shall  live by faith..."  Faith  in our  Lord  Jesus
Christ;  his life, death, resurrection, ascension and intercession on our
behalf at the right hand of God the Father.

Next we have the problem of loving our neighbor, or persons with
whom we have a relationship based strictly on those five senses.  It is
beyond our ability to love our neighbor through the effort of  the flesh,
but for  another reason.  Since  we experience our  fellowman through
our  senses,  the difficulty arises  when we discover him to be without
qualities that will cause one to love him. Just like ourselves, our neigh-
bor  has faults,  character and personality flaws,  making it difficult to
relate to him with love.  Loving by faith is the only way to love anyone
with the unconditional love of God.
(It had never occurred to me in that way before.)

Getting back to the issue of loving God; from where does the faith to
love Him originate?  It certainly does not begin within you or me.  The
Scripture says, "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of
God."  (Romans 10: 17)  Therefore, if we are to obey this Great Com-
mandment, we must become people of "The Book."  If we are to love
our neighbor, as unlovable as he may be, we must become a people of
"The Book."  In the Bible we find all the information (tools) we need
to understand what love is,  it's origin,  and just what  love can do.  It
can change a vile and sinful person into a loving follower of our Lord
Jesus Christ,  giving our  neighbor the potential to become more like
Christ, loving and lovable, as he matures througn Sanctification.
(Growing into the likeness of our Lord Jesus Christ)

In 1 Thessalonians 4: 3 we find, "For this is the will of God, your
sanctification, that you should abstain from sexual immorality"
Read verses 1-9.  Since our sanctification is the will of God, we can
expect it to happen as we exercise faith in God and his Word. This
process is not automatic since you and I must cooperate with Him in
this.  (Seek Him)
Is it possible for one to make sanctification an extended process
causing  painfully slow  Spiritual  growth  and  unnecessary  delay in
maturity. This will be costly to  the believer.  Faithfully studying  the
Word of God, close fellowship and accountability to others, through
the local church is essential for well rounded, timely growth.

Two things mentioned in the passage, vs.3, sexual immorality and
in vs. 9, love of others.  The complete chapter deals with the lifestyle
of one who is  being sanctified.  The chapter closes with  prophecy of
the "catching away" of  the saints. vs. 13 thru 18.  It is incumbent on
each of us to be prepared for the "rapture" of the Church as it has to
do  with  fellowship  here  and  reward  when  we  appear  before  the
"Bema," or  judgment seat of Christ.  (The word, "Bema," is a plat-
form or step from which our Lord will judge His Church.   The word
"rapture" is an optional translation of the "catching away" of belie-
vers, and is used in many evangelical circles.

"But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren,
concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow
not, even as others which have no hope.  For if we
believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them
also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord,
that we which are alive and remain unto the coming
of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep."

"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven

with a shout and with the voice of the archangel.
and with the trump of God: And we which are alive
and remain shall be caught up together with them
in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so
shall we ever be with the Lord."

"Wherefore, comfort one another with these words."
