MORE ON HOW TO STUDY GOD'S WORD

More on How To Study God‘s Word...                                   Psalm 119

(The whole of Psalms 119 is devoted to Scripture for good reason)

"Unless thy law had been my delights, I should have perished in
mine affliction.  I will  never forget thy precepts;  for with them
thou hast quickened me."  (made me to live)  Psalm 119:92-93

The following is an outline from Psalm 119 I have known for years.
It was brought back to my attention today by a  radio. Bible teacher.

           I.   Study the Bible for a blessing to enjoy.(1-3)

II.  Study God’s Word  for a sin to avoid. (Verse 11)

III. Study the Bible for a lesson to learn. (Verse 66)

IV. Study God’s Word  for a commandment to keep.(115)

          V.  Study the Bible to learn "new" truth  and get wisdom.
                                                   (Verse 18, 104, 105, 130)

      1. God’s Word is filled with biographies of  men and women great
and small  who experienced  life just as we have and will.  We can
learn how our Lord deals with and relates to these individuals, per-
mitting us  to learn from the  successes and  failures in  their lives,
and just how He might deal with us.

      2. The Bible informs us of the blessings available to the Child of
God and  how one may align himself to receive,  enjoy and bless
      others through them.

      3. The commands we find in Scripture are  double edged.  Some
are positive showing us how to live and relate to God and Man.
Others are  negative,  giving us  information about  how to  get
through life to Him without shipwreck.

      4. There are lessons to learn, commands to keep and there is also
sin to avoid.  As we learn the devastating effect of sin in the lives
of individuals and nations recorded in God’s Word, we are better
       equipped to make righteous choices.

      5. There is no new truth.  As we diligently study God's Word, we
discover  truth about which we were previously ignorant and this
truth, new to us, gives us wisdom to relate to God and man.   We
find insights of God and Man.  The Word of God, Scripture, says,
"Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” (105)

If we study God’s Word with no plan in mind and go hapha-
zardly through the Bible without direction, we will lose interest and
there will be limited profit from the exercise.  When we begin with a
plan in mind,  and expected  result,  we may grow to Spiritual Matu-
rity, becoming  positive factors in the lives of those around us.  With
God the Spirit as our interpreter and guide, there is nothing of  Scrip-
  ture closed to us...
First hand knowledge  from the Lord God,
                     the Living Word, is invaluable.
