Denial of Ones Self, Essential 1.18.18
When one comes to our Lord, Jesus Christ, there is a radical
change in his life; a transformation if you please. Since it is an
impossibility for you or I to discount self interest, preferring to
put someone else interest ahead of our own, this is only done
with ability outside ourselves. That ability..."Christ in you, the
hope of glory." Colossians 1: 27b. Since we know the one who
is "...Author and finisher of our faith..," we also know, accor-
ding to His Word, our part in this "puzzle." (Hebrews 12: 2;
see also Hebrews 5: 9) The seeker of the Lord God will only be
successful in this life as he submits his life to the Lord Christ,
giving over the control of same to "Christ." He is in us and
said He will never leave (forsake) us to our own designs. He is
in control, as He wills, but this control, help, direction or bene-
fit may only be accessed as we submit our lives to His control,
and give our wills over to Him. (to His will)
Just how important is it for one to give over control of life to
this one, who loves and cares for us so much He lived among us
for 30 years, as one of us. Being God the Son, one with God
the Father, ("I and my Father are One.") John 10: 30)
He is the "good" Shepherd. What does a shepherd do, but to
care for his sheep. "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them
and they follow me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall
never perish, neither shall any one snatch them out of my hand.
My Father is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them
out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one." John 10:27
thru 30. (See also John 14: 8-17) This brings into focus three
persons, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Three persons, one
entity, the Lord God, creator; He who sustains His creation. We
may understandably inquire as to how God can be three in one.
He is GOD, YAWEH, Designer, Creator. He maintains it all.
GOD by his very nature can do anything he wills to do without
asking permission of anyone. This includes you and me.
Just why is this self denial and reception of the Lord God in
Jesus Christ so important? In Matthew 16: 24, we find, Then
Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after me,
let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For
whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses
his life for my sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if
he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will
a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man will
come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He
will reward each according to his works."
The key is for you and me to believe in our hearts the Son of
God, Jesus Christ, was raised from the dead by God the Father,
and confess openly, with the mouth that Jesus is Lord. We will
learn to serve our Lord by serving mankind. This serving both
God and man is the act of confessing Jesus Christ is Lord to
whomever our Lord puts in our paths. So the act that saves, or
makes one a child of God, is the same act of a "Word of faith"
to our friends, communicating the gospel of salvation.
This message is found in Romans 10: 8-10 in the New Testa-
ment of Scripture. "The word of faith is nigh thee, even in thy
mouth, That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and believe in thine heart that God raised Him from the dead,
thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righ-
teousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salva-
tion." It continues in verse 13 of this passage. "For whosoever
shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." This must
be a verbal confession in the hearing of another individual or
group of persons.
